Generation Z, born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, is the newest generation to enter the workforce and will represent about 27% of the workforce by 2025.
With their unique experiences and perspectives, Gen Z employees bring fresh energy and creativity to any workplace, including mobile companies. In this article, we will explore the experiences of Gen Z workers in mobile companies and what they look for in their jobs.
Gen Z: the way they are
One of the defining characteristics of Gen Z is their digital fluency. They grew up in a world where smartphones and social media were ubiquitous, which makes them uniquely suited to work in mobile companies.
Gen Z workers bring a deep understanding of technology, social media, and digital marketing to the table, making them valuable assets to any mobile company looking to innovate and stay ahead of the curve.
Gen Z workers also place a high value on flexibility and work-life balance. They value companies prioritizing mental health and wellness, offering mental health days and wellness programs.
Another important factor for Gen Z workers is a sense of purpose. They want to work for companies that are making a positive impact in the world, and they want to feel that their work is contributing to that impact.
The future of work
What does Gen Z expect from work? The also called “the first global generation” is looking for a job where they can expand their skills and broaden their talents, and experience is their priority.
Their expectations about the workplace are high and non-negotiable. In their priorities, we find the following:
1- Flexibility: Gen Z employees appreciate the option of working remotely. According to a report by the World Economic Forum, 73% of workers now seek permanent flexible work arrangements. Remote and hybrid work arrangements promote productivity, reduce workplace distractions, and lessen many of the stress factors that can exacerbate mental health issues for Gen Z workers.
2- Value Alignment: refers to the importance of working for a company that aligns with their personal values and beliefs. This generation is more likely to seek out employers who share their commitment to social and environmental issues, such as diversity, equity, and sustainability. Gen Z workers want to feel like they are making a positive impact through their work and want to work for companies that prioritize the greater good. They value transparency and honesty from their employers.
3- Mental Health Support: Gen Z asks for better access to resources and preventive measures, heightened awareness, compassionate leadership, and a culture prioritizing wellness.
4- Career Growth: As per Glint’s report on employee well-being in 2021, the top defining factor of an exceptional work environment is now seen as having chances for learning and personal growth.
5- Diversity and Inclusion: The younger generation of workers expects elevated levels of equity and diversity, which necessitates taking concrete steps to create an all-encompassing workplace that respects and supports all forms of identity.
6- Work-life Balance: it means having the ability to maintain a healthy and fulfilling personal life while pursuing a successful career. They want to stay energized and energized by their jobs, as they recognize that this can lead to burnout, decreased job satisfaction, and mental health issues.
7- Autonomy: They require opportunities for experimentation to demonstrate their capabilities.
8- Constructive Feedback: Yearly feedback is a valuable summary of the previous year’s events, but it typically does not present an opportunity to learn, improve, and adapt to create real-time effects. Instead, strive to offer ongoing, transparent feedback that incorporates real-world scenarios of what is functioning and what is not, along with action steps to enhance your Gen Z team’s self-awareness.
9- Fair Pay: Generally speaking, fair pay for Gen Z workers should be commensurate with their skills, responsibilities, and contributions to the company. However, Gen Z workers often value more than just financial compensation. They may also prioritize benefits such as flexible work arrangements, opportunities for learning and growth, and a company culture that aligns with their values.
